Creatures learning to walk, live
Creatures learning to walk, live in your browser. Ambulo evolves jointed creatures from scratch. Every creature is a box torso with capsule limbs, each limb driven by its own tiny neural network. A genetic algorithm scores thousands of them in a rigid-body physics engine, keeps the ones that do best, mutates their bodies and brains, and repeats. Generation one flops around. A few minutes later something is running. Switch the course to stairs or gaps and watch the gait get rebuilt; switch the objective to chase, and once a lineage has learned to steer you can drive the pack around with your mouse.
