All your Mac activity, 100% local
DigitalLife is a native macOS activity monitor that operates entirely on the user's device. Its primary function is to track and report on various aspects of system usage, including application activity, file changes, energy consumption, and disk space. Designed for macOS 13 and later on Apple Silicon, the application stores all collected data locally in a database on the user's Mac, with no cloud storage, no account creation, and no data uploaded to external servers. The application offers several core monitoring capabilities. It tracks app usage and screen time, providing daily rankings with icons and comparisons to previous periods. It monitors file activity by recording created, deleted, and modified files, and organizes this data by directory, file type, and the application responsible for the change. DigitalLife also tracks battery and power trends, includes a per-app energy ranking to identify high-consumption applications, and provides a disk scanning feature to locate largest folders and files for cleanup. Users can generate daily, weekly, and monthly reports that also include network traffic and CPU and memory top lists. Data can be cleared by day or category, and exported to JSON or CSV formats. Typical use cases involve reviewing personal productivity by analyzing app usage patterns, managing storage by identifying and cleaning up large files, and monitoring system health through energy and battery trends. The workflow is passive: the application runs as a menu-bar app built with SwiftUI, designed to consume minimal resources while operating in the background. Users interact with it to view reports, adjust settings, or perform on-demand disk scans. The application includes optional database encryption, with the key stored in the system Keychain. The only optional network call occurs when the user manually clicks "Check for Updates," which retrieves a version number without sending any user data. DigitalLife is notarized and free for personal use.
