Live broadcasting & walkie-talkie
SpeakMic is a lightweight real-time audio broadcasting tool designed for small events and group voice communication. It operates as a peer-to-peer walkie-talkie style chat system, allowing one person to broadcast to many listeners without requiring a dedicated media server or any app installation on the listener side. The broadcaster can share a link or QR code to invite participants, and up to 100 people can listen simultaneously. Performance depends on the broadcaster’s device and internet connection, and the built-in relay tree mechanism automatically scales the room beyond the first 20 direct connections by distributing the load among listeners. Key features include the ability to extend a broadcast to up to 600 listeners by adding relay rooms using five additional devices, though the actual maximum number depends on device type, connection speed, and network conditions. Rooms are created with an admin PIN for operator control, and room creation is rate limited on an hourly and daily basis. Rooms automatically expire after one day of inactivity, while permanent rooms expire after three months of inactivity. SpeakMic uses peer-to-peer audio transmission, meaning no audio is ever recorded or stored. Chat messages within the app are temporary and disappear once all participants leave the room. Typical use cases include small event announcements, live commentary, team coordination, or any scenario where one to many audio broadcasting is needed without infrastructure overhead. The workflow involves a broadcaster setting up a room, configuring the listener limit and connection type, and then sharing the room link or QR code with participants who can join via a web browser without installing any software. The app is created by Mateusz Barniak, and its current version is 1.8.27. For additional information or support, users can contact [email protected].
