Unlike traditional forecast apps that predict future wind conditions, WindUp provides an alert based on current, real-time observations. The app can override a phone’s Silent or Do Not Disturb mode by using iOS time-sensitive and critical alerts (or equivalent Android mechanisms) to ensure the notification reaches the user without delay. The app offers several core features. It allows users to set a wind alarm by specifying wind speed, direction, and a time window, and then watches the associated station until conditions are matched. It includes a live map of over 10,000 global wind stations, enabling users to explore conditions anywhere. WindUp also provides AI-powered forecasts that are trained on the same live station data, offering hyper-local outlooks that complement the alarm functionality. Additional features include real-time tide information displayed on the home screen, home screen widgets for quick glances, an explore map to pan and tap stations, and a dark mode. The app has been rebuilt with a cleaner interface, faster performance, and improved search for stations and forecast spots. Typical use cases involve a user identifying a favorite spot for wind sports, setting an alarm for the desired wind speed and direction, and then going about their day without needing to constantly check forecast apps. The alarm rings only when the live conditions match, allowing the user to head out immediately for a session.
