Project mapping the full internet
WorldIP.io is a free online tool for looking up information about any of the 4.3 billion IPv4 addresses. Its primary function is to provide detailed data about an IP address, including its owner, Autonomous System Number (ASN), geolocation at the country, state, and city level, reverse DNS (PTR) records, and allocation history. The service requires no signup or API key and is accessible directly through a web browser at worldip.io. The tool supports multiple types of lookups. Users can enter a specific IPv4 address, such as 8.8.8.8, to see its owning organization, ASN, BGP routed prefix, MaxMind geolocation, and reverse DNS record. It also allows CIDR range lookups to explore entire subnets, ASN lookups to trace BGP routed prefixes back to their operator, and organization IP footprint searches to view all CIDR blocks owned by a single entity. Additional features include browsing IP allocations by country, state, or city down to 120,000 cities, tracking IPv4 exhaustion with a global allocation breakdown by regional internet registry, and viewing 16 neighboring IPs within the same /24 range for any address. The data on WorldIP.io is assembled from three authoritative sources: MaxMind GeoLite2 for city level geolocation, RIR delegation files from ARIN, RIPE, APNIC, LACNIC, and AfriNIC for allocation ownership, and Team Cymru for ASN to organization mapping. The service also operates a globally distributed scanner fleet that maps reverse DNS records at scale, with each node self tuning its scan rate in real time. Data from MaxMind refreshes weekly. Every IPv4 address gets its own deep linkable URL, and all lookups are cross linked to related ranges, organizations, and geographic areas. Typical use cases include network diagnostics, email authentication verification using PTR records, understanding how IP space is divided into subnets, and researching the footprint of ISPs, cloud providers, and other large organizations. The platform is designed for researchers, network administrators, and anyone needing free, immediate access to IP ownership and routing information without a registration requirement.
