Clearcote is an open source, de-Googled build of the Chromium browser specifically designed for use with automation frameworks such as Playwright and Puppeteer. Its primary function is to provide a browser environment where fingerprint controls are compiled directly into the engine, rather than applied through script injection. This approach allows pages to observe native browser behavior rather than a modified Document Object Model (DOM), resulting in a more coherent and plausible identity for each site visited rather than an accidentally unique one. The tool includes several key features. It offers engine-level control over fingerprint parameters including seed, platform, brand, graphics processing unit (GPU), hardware concurrency, timezone, and geolocation, all managed through command line switches. Clearcote is built on ungoogled-chromium, which removes Google services, telemetry, and other integration points by default. The build is fully open source under the BSD-3-Clause license and is designed to be reproducible and verifiable from source code. It supports Windows and Linux platforms, with new Chromium major versions becoming available to Pro users on the day of release and to the free tier approximately two months later. The software is distributed via npm and PyPI, and does not phone home or include any tracking mechanisms. Typical use cases include any automation task where a consistent, non-unique browser fingerprint is critical, such as web scraping, account management, testing, and accessing sites with fingerprint detection. The workflow involves pointing existing Playwright or Puppeteer scripts at the Clearcote binary instead of a standard Chromium installation, using the same APIs. For users requiring the latest features and direct support, a paid Pro tier provides early access to new Chromium majors, additional stealth patches that are kept private, unlimited concurrency during beta, and direct email support. Technical requirements depend on the user's operating system and automation stack. Clearcote provides prebuilt binaries for Windows and Linux, with all patches publicly available for review. The free build is fully reproducible from public source code, while the Pro build includes a few additional private stealth patches and is therefore not reproducible from public sources. The software is maintained and kept current with the latest Chromium releases and anti-detection updates.
