Zero backend SSH client
Zero backend SSH client
GateShell is a native SSH client and server command center developed for iPhone, iPad, and Mac. Built with SwiftUI, the app provides a desktop-grade terminal emulator alongside more than 20 service dashboards covering Docker, databases, security tools, and other server management tasks. The application operates without any backend servers or data collection, meaning all credentials, SSH keys, and session data remain stored locally on the user's device. Passwords and keys are protected using the hardware-encrypted Keychain, with optional Face ID or Touch ID authentication required to open the app. The core functionality includes SSH and SFTP sessions, port forwarding, and tunneling. GateShell also supports Mosh, an encrypted UDP-based remote shell that maintains connections across Wi-Fi and cellular network changes, with automatic fallback to standard SSH when needed. The app includes a server security assistant that scans for updates, public listeners, SSH policy, firewall configuration, backups, and TLS certificates. Users can review the evidence for free, while guided fixes are available through the Pro subscription, requiring explicit approval before changes are applied and followed by an automatic rescan of the server state. GateShell integrates with coding agents such as Claude Code, Codex, and Gemini CLI. Users can detect these agents on a remote server, start or resume a project directly in the live terminal, and interrupt the agent at any time. The app also includes an App Preview feature that identifies the port a development server is listening on, opens a loopback tunnel over the existing SSH session, and renders the web application in a local browser without exposing it publicly. Additional workflow tools include a Git diff review for staged and unstaged changes, presented as line-numbered hunks read directly from the server. The terminal supports multi-pane layouts with two-column, two-row, or four-pane configurations, optional input broadcast across sessions, 32 themes, three bundled Nerd Fonts, imported fonts, and named custom keyboard layouts for iPhone and iPad. GateShell is available as a free download with unlimited SSH sessions, while the Pro tier costs $1.99 per month or $19.99 per year. The app requires no account creation and no configuration files, and it works across iPhone, iPad, and Mac with a Quick Connect option for one-tap access to saved hosts.
