Black Hole is a free, open-source macOS application that integrates tasks, a focus timer, a daily notepad, and calendar events into the Mac's notch. It requires macOS 14 or later and runs on Apple silicon. The app requires no account and performs no tracking. The task list supports adding, checking off, and reordering items by dragging, with options for time limits, reminders, and moving tasks to the next day. Unfinished tasks roll over automatically. The focus timer offers a 25-minute countdown or a stopwatch, displaying progress as a live island in the notch and pausing when the Mac sleeps. The daily notepad saves as the user types, and pressing Command+Return converts a line into a task. Calendar events from iCloud, Google, and Outlook appear in a color-coded, read-only format, with the notch counting down to meetings five minutes before they begin. On displays without a notch, the workspace opens at the top of the screen. On external monitors, a floating button can be repositioned, and the workspace opens beside it. An Insights feature tracks focus time, completed versus planned tasks, active days, and streaks. The 0.2 update introduces AI access: when enabled, Black Hole generates a permanent web address that can be pasted into claude.ai, ChatGPT, Claude Code, or Cursor, allowing an AI assistant to manage tasks, start focus sessions, or report on weekly focus.
