Jarvis — your private, voice-first
Jarvis AI Assistant is a free, open-source voice dictation and app control tool designed for macOS. Its primary function is to allow users to dictate text at speeds up to four times faster than typing, control applications using voice commands, and execute AI workflows with a single spoken command. The application processes speech locally on the user’s Mac, meaning audio data never leaves the device. It is available without a subscription, signup, or telemetry. The tool offers several core capabilities. It works across all applications on macOS, enabling dictation in any text field. Users can also drive apps by voice, such as opening, closing, or navigating software, and chain multiple AI actions into a single workflow. Jarvis is optimized for Apple Silicon (M1, M2, M3, and M4 chips) and is also compatible with Intel Macs running macOS 12 Monterey or later. The local processing achieves a latency of under 300 milliseconds. Typical use cases include hands-free text entry for writing, note taking, or coding; voice control for accessibility or productivity; and automated multi-step tasks that combine dictation with app commands. Because it is open source, users can inspect, modify, or contribute to the codebase. The application is positioned as a free alternative to subscription-based or cloud-dependent tools such as Wispr Flow, Superwhisper, MacWhisper, and Dragon Dictation, offering local processing and voice-driven app control in addition to transcription.
