Strip hidden metadata. Zero uploads
Blindfold is a browser-based metadata removal tool that scans and strips hidden data from image and document files. Its primary function is to remove embedded information such as EXIF data, GPS coordinates, device model, timestamps, author details, and C2PA tags that identify AI-generated content. The tool operates entirely within the user’s browser using Web Workers, meaning files are read, processed, and cleaned in local memory without ever being transmitted to a server. When the browser tab is closed, no residual data remains. The application supports cleaning of JPEG, PNG, and WebP images at no cost, while a Pro tier extends functionality to PDF, DOCX, PPTX, and XLSX files, as well as AI-generated images from services like ChatGPT, Midjourney, and DALL-E. For Pro users, the tool detects and removes invisible markers such as C2PA tags and XMP metadata, including the exact prompts used to generate the content. The interface allows users to drag and drop files for processing, and the workflow is straightforward: a file is selected, cleaned automatically, and the scrubbed version can be downloaded without any intermediate upload. Typical use cases include preparing photos or documents for public sharing, ensuring that personal location data, device information, or authorship traces are not inadvertently exposed. The tool is also relevant for users who need to verify that AI-generated content markers are removed before distribution. Technical requirements are minimal, as the solution runs on any modern web browser with JavaScript enabled. The service is provided free of charge for basic image formats, and feedback on bugs or suggestions is welcomed through the website. Blindfold is hosted at blindfold-privacy.vercel.app and is current as of 2026.
