Calculate car import tax
CarTax is a web application that calculates the Greek car registration tax (τέλος ταξινόμησης) for vehicles imported from other European countries. The tool accepts a listing link from mobile.de or AutoScout24 and extracts the vehicle's version, first registration date, mileage, and equipment. It then cross-references the official price list that the importer submitted to the Greek Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE) to determine the vehicle's original pre-tax price in Greece. The registration tax is calculated using the AADE method, which applies depreciation based on vehicle age and mileage, CO2 emissions, and the applicable tax brackets. The first calculation is free. In addition to the registration tax, CarTax provides a full cost breakdown up to license plate issuance, including VAT where owed, transport, customs agent fees, license plates, and vehicle inspection (KTEO). It also estimates annual ownership costs such as road tax, the tekmirio deemed income tax, and the luxury living tax. Example calculations on the site include a Volkswagen Golf plug-in hybrid (April 2021, 76,746 km) with a tax of €927, a Ford Focus petrol (October 2016, 69,998 km) with a tax of €3,185, and a BMW M2 petrol (July 2017, 103,567 km) with a tax of €7,255. The workflow is straightforward: the user pastes a listing link, the system reads the relevant vehicle details, and generates a report with both the calculated tax and the complete import cost breakdown. Users can also request the full import process through partner services. In that case, the user specifies their location and desired delivery date, a partner provides a final price covering purchase, transport, customs, and plates, and the user only pays if they accept the offer. The site also includes a step-by-step import guide and information on customs clearance costs.
