Open-source presentation editor
Open-source presentation editor
DeckCraft is a free, open-source presentation application developed by the ArtCraft team at Storytold. It is written in Rust and released under the MIT or Apache-2.0 license. The software is available as a native desktop application for macOS, Windows, and Linux, as well as an online editor that runs in a browser through WebAssembly without requiring installation. The editor provides a workspace for creating and editing slides. It supports opening and saving files in the .pptx format used by Microsoft PowerPoint. Features include themes, slide masters, and reusable layouts for maintaining consistency. Users can add text, images, charts, and vector shapes, and apply fills, gradients, and outlines. The application includes transitions between slides and animations for entrance, emphasis, and exit effects. Presenter tools, speaker notes, and rehearsal timing are available in the desktop builds. The online editor does not require an account, and files remain on the user's device. A typical workflow involves starting from a blank presentation or a sample deck, designing slides using the available tools, adding animations, and presenting directly or saving the result as a .pptx file. The project is in early development, so complex formatting, embedded media, and advanced PowerPoint features may not transfer perfectly. Users are advised to work from copies of important files and verify the output.
