Open Mac drives on Windows
Diskferry is a Windows application for reading Mac formatted drives on Windows 10 and 11 systems. Its primary function is copying files from drives using the APFS or Mac OS Extended (HFS+) file systems. The application operates in a strict read-only mode, never writing to the connected drive, and does not require the installation of a system driver. It runs as an ordinary Microsoft Store application without kernel-level components, ensuring that uninstalling it leaves no residual files on the system. Every file copied by Diskferry is verified against the original using a SHA-256 hash comparison, and a report is generated detailing the success or failure of each transfer. The typical workflow involves connecting a Mac drive via USB, Thunderbolt, or SD card, or opening a disk image file. The user can then scan for Mac partitions, which requires a one-time Windows permission prompt for a small helper application that opens the drive read-only. Once detected, the user can browse the drive's volumes, folders, and files, including password-protected APFS volumes. Browsing and previewing files is free. To copy files, the user selects the desired items and a destination on the PC. The copying and verification process is unlocked through a one-time payment of $14.99 with no subscription required. Diskferry supports APFS volumes, including encrypted ones with the correct password, and HFS+ volumes, including those with case-sensitive formatting. It does not assign a drive letter or mount the drive in Windows File Explorer, which prevents Windows from offering to format or repair the drive. The application is specifically designed for external drives and disk images. It does not currently support internal SSDs found in Macs with T2 or Apple Silicon chips, Time Machine backup drives, Fusion Drives, or encrypted or compressed .dmg files.
