Productivity amplifier for Linux
Glocker is an open-source distraction blocker and behavior tracker for the Linux operating system. Its primary function is to block distracting websites and applications according to a fixed schedule while logging user activity for later analysis. The logged data can be reviewed using the companion program Glockpeek, which provides insights into usage patterns to help users adjust their digital habits. The application blocks websites by domain through the system hosts file or by keyword using a browser plugin for Firefox and Chrome. Applications are blocked by their process name. To prevent easy circumvention of the schedule, Glocker can withdraw root access, requires a deliberate process for uninstallation, and can log the user out after repeated violations. Accountability features include email notifications to a designated contact. Users can request a timed unblock of a specific domain with a stated reason or request a limited extension for a blocked application. Glocker runs on Linux and has been tested on Debian, Ubuntu, Fedora, and Arch. It supports X11 and Wayland, though usage tracking is not available on KDE and Sway. Installation options include a signed installer script, a tarball, or building from source with the Go toolchain. A hosted version of the Glockpeek analytics viewer is available at my.glockerapp.com. This service includes a watchdog that monitors the local Glocker instance and can notify an accountability partner if it stops running. The hosted version uses client-side encryption and has not been independently audited. It is offered on a subscription basis with a free trial.
