Kestrel is a screen capture and screen recording application developed by Good Friend Solutions. It is currently available for Windows, with a Mac version planned for future release. The tool allows users to capture screenshots, record on-screen activity, mark up images and videos, and hide private details within captures. The application operates without requiring an account and does not engage in user tracking. The software is offered free of charge during its beta period, which runs through December 31, 2026. After that date, the standard pricing is set at $14.99 per year. Kestrel is designed for users who need to create annotated screenshots or screen recordings for documentation, tutorials, bug reporting, or sharing visual information while maintaining privacy by obscuring sensitive content. The workflow typically involves capturing a screenshot or starting a recording, then using built-in markup tools to add annotations or redact areas before saving or sharing the output. Technical details include support for standard screen capture and recording functions, with no requirement for user registration or data collection. The application is intended for individual users who prefer a straightforward, privacy-focused alternative to other screen capture tools.
