Nearby people. Real common ground.
Periyo is a social discovery application for Android devices that identifies nearby people and businesses sharing specific commonalities with the user. The app is designed to surface in-person connections that might otherwise be missed by notifying users when someone in their physical vicinity shares a meaningful common interest, such as the same hometown, college, or a niche hobby. Users can create either a Personal or Professional profile and control which details are visible, as all profile fields are hidden by default until the user enables them. The core workflow involves broadcasting a profile, receiving a notification when a shared interest is detected with someone nearby, and then communicating through in-app messaging without exchanging phone numbers. Once a reciprocal connection is established, users may optionally enable the Locate feature, which displays a live compass pointing toward the other person. This feature is disabled by default and only functions between two users who have actively connected. Periyo also includes a business discovery component: users can flag a service they are seeking, and if a nearby business broadcasts that service, the user receives a private notification. The business does not learn who was connected until the user chooses to reach out. Privacy controls are central to the app's design. Users decide what to share, when to share it, and for how long. Exact birthdates are never revealed, only an optional age display. Users can restrict who may discover them by age range and can block or mute other users at any time. Periyo offers optional Spotify integration, allowing users to share their currently playing track with nearby people without requiring a connection. A Connection badge appears on a track when the user shares additional commonalities with the person playing it. Periyo is currently available on Google Play, with an iOS version planned and announced through email notifications.
