Platform: Sydney Transit is a free public transport application for iPhone and Android devices that provides real time information for the Sydney transport network. The app displays live departure times, journey planning, and trip tracking, with a clear visual indicator distinguishing live data from static timetable information. It covers all modes of transport within the network, including trains, buses, ferries, and light rail, presenting them on a single map alongside departure boards and planned trips. Key features include live departures, journey planning, trip tracking, Live Activities on iPhone, an Android journey widget, an Apple Watch companion app, saved trips, and on device history. The app is written separately for each mobile platform to use native controls and interactions. For trip planning, the user’s start and destination are sent to Transport for NSW through the app’s server. The Android beta version sends analytics to the developers for bug detection. The app does not require user accounts or personal information; location and trip history remain stored locally on the device. Typical use cases involve checking live departure times before heading out, planning a multi leg journey that may include walking between changes, and following the next service or stop on the Lock Screen or via a notification. The app keeps the next step visible without requiring the user to unlock their phone. It is designed to handle the full scale of the Sydney network, which includes over 300 stations, 500 bus routes, and multiple ferry wharves. The application is developed by Immanuel Lam and Hunter Balderson.
