Car Performance Testing on Android
Pocket Performance is an Android-based car performance testing application that measures real-world acceleration and speed metrics using a phone’s internal sensors. The app is built on a seven-layer telemetry stack and a proprietary vehicle calibration system, enabling repeatable testing without external hardware. A free tier called Pocket Performance Lite allows users to perform calibrated 0–62 mph or 0–100 km/h runs without creating an account. Results can be saved, shared via Brag Cards, and compared against 36 public leaderboards that cover six event types (including quarter mile, half mile, and top speed), three drivetrain classes, and two gearbox categories. Each board displays the top 300 public entries and is freely viewable on the website. The full version of Pocket Performance adds features such as private result history, a multiple-car garage, proof video recording with a heads-up display overlay, Track Mode for extended sessions, in-app board access with qualifying uploads, challenges, and advanced telemetry. The app does not require a subscription. It is designed for drivers who want to test their own vehicles, document performance with video evidence, and compete on leaderboards that rank builds by measured times. A founding drivers program invites Android users to test the app, submit proof runs, and provide feedback in exchange for promo code access to the core app and Pro Pack. Typical use cases include verifying a car’s acceleration after modifications, comparing results against other builds in the same class, and sharing verified performance data with a community. Technical requirements are limited to an Android phone with GPS and accelerometer capabilities; no external OBD or GPS modules are necessary. The app’s calibration system and Run Confidence metric help ensure consistency across runs. All public leaderboard data remains free to view on the Pocket Performance website, while the app itself handles testing, storage, and social features.
