Collect group money on WhatsApp
SarafuPay is a WhatsApp-based application that facilitates group financial collections, commonly known as michango, for events such as weddings, funerals, medical expenses, and NGO fundraising. The tool operates through an AI agent integrated into WhatsApp, allowing users to initiate and manage collections entirely within the chat interface. Contributors can pay using mobile money or credit cards, and every transaction is recorded and reported to all participants. The core workflow involves three steps. First, a user starts a conversation with the SarafuPay agent in WhatsApp and specifies the purpose and target amount for the collection. Second, the agent generates a single payment link that the user shares with friends or group members. Contributors click the link to pay, and the organizer can see contributions in real time. Third, when the target is reached or the organizer decides to disburse funds, the payout is processed transparently: the organizer receives a code, and each contributor gets a receipt showing how the money was used. Key features include live tracking of contributions, automatic reporting of payouts to all contributors, and itemized fee breakdowns. The platform charges a SarafuPay fee and a provider fee for card or mobile money processing, while the payout itself is free. The application is designed to replace manual notebook tracking with a digital, auditable record. It requires only a WhatsApp account and a mobile money or card payment method from contributors. Typical use cases include group gifts, emergency fundraisers, and community project collections where transparency and accountability are important.
