Twin is an AI assistant that resides in the Mac menu bar notch or the Windows system tray. It is activated by holding a keyboard shortcut (Control+Option on macOS, Control+Alt on Windows) and speaking a question or command. The application reads the contents of the user's screen, provides spoken answers, and can visually point to specific buttons or interface elements. It can also be set to respond to a wake word ("What's good, Twin" or "Hey Twin") for hands-free operation. The tool offers several interaction modes. In the ask mode, users can request guidance on how to perform tasks within applications, and Twin will provide step-by-step instructions while pointing to the relevant controls. Users can hover over or circle specific on-screen elements like charts, error messages, or files to ask contextual questions about them. In the dictate mode, activated by a separate shortcut (Fn+Control on macOS, Control+Windows key on Windows), the user's speech is transcribed directly into the active text field, with filler words removed. If no text field is selected, the transcribed text is placed on the clipboard. A privacy setting allows users to restrict Twin to only pointing and providing instructions rather than directly clicking or typing. Typical use cases include getting step-by-step guidance on how to perform tasks in applications, dictating messages or notes into any text field, scheduling events, composing emails, finding files, and managing browser tabs. The application requires user confirmation before performing actions that close or end processes. Twin is available for free for macOS 14.2 or later and Windows 10 and 11.
