Same letters. Different placement.
Same letters. Different placement.
sqword is a word game in which all players receive the same letters in the same order. Each turn, one letter is presented, and each player places that letter on their own board wherever they choose. Because no player receives a different draw, the outcome is determined entirely by placement rather than luck. The game is available free on iOS and Android. The app supports matches against a random stranger or a chosen friend. Turn deadlines can be set from one minute to three days, allowing a match to continue over a busy schedule. A single daily board is shared by all players worldwide, with jokers disabled so that no element of chance remains. Scoring options include Classic, where every tile is worth one point; Scrabble scoring, which incorporates rare letters and bonus squares; and Custom, which allows adjusted rules. Online matches feed a Glicko-2 rating. Classic and Scrabble scoring each have their own ladder system, and every month functions as a separate season that freezes at month end and is then archived. For local play, the app supports a pass-and-play mode on one phone, with a cover screen that keeps each player's board hidden between turns. This makes it suitable for travel and in-person competition. The game also offers language selection and a daily streak feature.
