Free perfume API and MCP server
The 10ML Perfume Finder is a fragrance data tool that provides a free, public API for accessing information on over 6,000 perfumes. It is designed for developers and fragrance enthusiasts who need reliable, structured perfume data without requiring an API key or any sign up. The API returns data in JSON format over GET requests and is described using OpenAPI 3.1, making it straightforward to integrate into applications, websites, or AI assistant workflows. The API offers several endpoints. The fragrance notes endpoint allows users to look up any of the 285 indexed notes by name or spelling variant. The perfume lookup endpoint returns detailed information including note pyramids (top, heart, and base), accords, fragrance families, mood pairings, and similar scents. The perfume similarity endpoint ranks perfumes based on shared notes, accords, and style, with parameters to adjust results toward fresher, sweeter, or darker profiles. The alternatives endpoint provides editor curated alternatives to well known perfumes, always from different houses. All endpoints are read only, support pagination with cursor, and include locale options for language switching. Typical use cases include building fragrance recommendation engines, comparing perfumes, creating educational content about notes and accords, or layering suggestions. The API also functions as a remote Model Context Protocol (MCP) server, allowing direct integration into AI assistants like Claude and ChatGPT. Developers can add the MCP endpoint to these platforms to enable natural language queries about fragrances, notes, or comparisons. The service has been benchmarked for accuracy and speed, with 39 out of 40 questions answered correctly in a single call per question and a median response time of 232 milliseconds. The API is hosted at https://mcp.10ml.com/api/v1 with an OpenAPI schema available at https://mcp.10ml.com/openapi.json.
