WordPress on Cloudflare Workers
WordPress on Cloudflare Workers
HostlessWP is a tool that migrates a running WordPress site to run on Cloudflare Workers. It moves the site's code, plugins, theme, and media while keeping the MySQL database on its original host. The site remains fully dynamic, running real PHP for every request, which allows checkout, comments, search, forms, and logins to function normally. This setup removes the need to manage an operating system, web server, or PHP installation. The migration process is initiated with a single command run from the directory containing wp-config.php. The tool analyzes the database and plugin list, packages the WordPress installation, precompiles the PHP code, copies media to an S3-compatible object storage bucket, and deploys the site to a test address. The site connects to the existing MySQL database through Cloudflare Hyperdrive. Page caching for logged-out visitors is handled by Workers KV. The user can switch their domain to the new deployment once testing is complete. The platform supports standard WordPress features including pages, posts, comments, search, feeds, the admin interface, the REST API, and the block editor. Specific plugins like WooCommerce (checkout tested end to end), Elementor, and Yoast are supported. Media uploads are stored in the user's object storage bucket. Plugins can be installed on the source site and redeployed. The architecture provides security benefits by removing SSH access and a traditional control panel, and by keeping the codebase read-only. HostlessWP is suited for WordPress site owners who want to eliminate server maintenance overhead. Small blogs and business sites can operate within the free tiers of Cloudflare Workers, Hyperdrive, KV, and R2. The user retains ownership of their data in their own Cloudflare account and can revert the domain at any time. The tool is open source.
